Meg's mom makes her mother-in-law Myrtle's yummy stuffing for Thanksgiving every year. It's a family favorite and now that Meg isn't able to go home for Thanksgiving every year we've made it a tradition in our home too. It's super simple to make but it's one of the best stuffings I've had. Nothing fancy, just good stuffing. She cooks it in the bird but we make it in a casserole dish. We add a couple things when we make it so this is our version of her recipe.
Pepperidge farm herb and bread crumbs (16 oz size for 14lb turkey)
scald 1 qt. milk and add 1/2 lb melted butter
Beat 4 eggs
1 onion (diced)
2 stalks of celery (diced)
1.5 tsp Sage
1.5 tsp Rosemary (chopped fine)
1.5 tsp Thyme (chopped fine)
Salt and Pepper
1 tsp. baking powder if used right away
Mix everything together and stuff into turkey or put in casserole dish.
Our Foodie Adventures
This is a place where we can share our family and friends food history. Recipes are passed down from generation to generation. They're an important part of our culture and who we are. We would like to honor that history by sharing the recipes and stories people have. Your great-great grandchild may someday share a recipe with their child that you found on this blog. We hope you enjoy what you find here and we encourage everyone to cook with your friends and family. Bon Appétit!

Grandma Opal's Chocolate Cookies
Here's my grandma's cookie recipe exactly as she wrote it on her recipe card. These always remind me of being in her kitchen.
Opal's Chocolate Cookies
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. vanilla
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg (unbeaten)
1/4 t. soda
1 cup sifted flour
1 1/2 T cocoa
1/2 cup nuts
Combine shortening, salt and vanilla. Add sugars gradually and cream well. Add egg and beat well. Sift soda with flour to creamed mixture and mix well. Add chocolate and nuts and blend. Drop from teaspoon on greased baking sheets. Bake in moderate oven, 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Makes 3 dozen cookies. Be sure to remove cookies from oven while still soft. (I mix my cocoa with flour.)
